Graeme Hawes & Tim Fowler
This body of work is the result of collaboration between two Leicester based artists: Graeme Hawes, a highly skilled and experienced glassblower, and Tim Fowler, an internationally acclaimed fine artist. In this unique partnership, the vivid, botanical-inspired paintings of Tim Fowler are brought to life in a completely new form—blown glass leaves. The duo works side by side in the glassblowing workshop, where Graeme meticulously shapes and forms glass into the intricate, organic shapes envisioned by Tim. The result is a stunning translation of Tim’s bold, vibrant plant imagery into the delicate translucency of glass.
Once the glass leaves take shape, they are further enhanced with the expertise of a local blacksmith. This final step imbues the works with a grounded, enduring quality, contrasting the fragility of the glass with the robust nature of the metal.
Together, Hawes and Fowler have created a body of work that bridges the gap between two distinct artistic worlds. The process of working together in the studio not only brings Tim’s original vision of nature into a new medium but also highlights the power of collaboration in transforming and elevating an idea. The finished pieces capture Tim’s vivid representation of plants and leaves and Graeme’s mastery and skill presenting them as both delicate and resilient, fleeting and enduring—much like the natural world itself.
