Kate Barker is a British artist based in the South West of England whose work is rooted and inspired by a deep connection with the natural world. She works across painting, drawing and printmaking, creating expressive and evocative works that explore movement energy and atmosphere within nature and the coastal landscape.

Kate studied at Exeter College of Art and Design before graduating with a First Class Degree in Textiles from Manchester University. She continued her studies at the acclaimed Bellas Artes in Valencia, Spain. She has since lived and worked in India, Africa and Europe, experiences which have broadened her visual language and continued to enrich her colour palette and deepen her engagement with place and landscape.

Kate is a strong advocate of working en plein air and often works outside responding directly to the landscape around her. She seeks to capture the feeling and energy of a particular place and moment. She is interested in the immediacy and immersiveness of this experience, informing works that convey – movement and energy, through changing light, weather and atmosphere. She hopes her work evokes something of the emotion she feels whilst painting and drawing, inviting the viewer to pause and find their own deep connection with the landscape and natural world.

Kate is dynamic in her ways of working. Her drawings reveal a strong sense of movement and freedom and are bursting with life and intricacy. Her paintings are immersive, full of energy and rich in texture and atmosphere.

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the UK and Spain
