Mr Otter

With the densest fur in the animal kingdom, this playful, intelligent creature is known for holding hands while sleeping in “rafts”, using rocks to open shells and making slides for fun as well as travel! Back in the 1960s, otters were on the verge of extinction in the UK. Today on Exmoor, with improved water quality and considerable conservation efforts, this iconic, nocturnal creature is thriving on rivers and streams right up to the headwaters. This collage painting celebrates Mr Otter, resting on a verdant bank of the river Exe. He’s amongst the ferns and shaded by a weeping willow on a beautiful Summer’s day on Exmoor.
